Valhollian translation for Sega Saturn released :)

Well, yeah, this was an unexpected both project and release. An absolutely hardcore TRPG for Sega Saturn back from 1998. Save is your best friend. If you're braindead, that is. Enjoy and buy the original game!

Oh, yeah, the patch is here.

And the Manual is here.

PS: The game's picky with emu and prob only the latest mednafen is able to emulate it properly. As for original hardware - all smooth (Clone CD still does wonders).

PPS: Patch upgraded to v.1.2 version.

I'm amazed to see project like this available,
your work finally allows for public recognition
Manual is top notch too, feels like a relic
and more immersive than a tuto you have to learn combination.

icing on the cake : Finding brave prone on this same page it looks gorgeous.

  5. I've come across some kind of bug. I've been playing the game on Mednafen, and I'm up to the fourth chapter. I have Ray up to level 9, and whenever he gets his level up to 10, the game freezes just before it shows his stat increases.

  6. Okay, so I tried re-patching the game and loaded my save up to the part where leveling up would freeze the game. This time, though, when Ray leveled up, the window showing the stat ups glitched out, and suddenly every single character, both mine and the enemies, were given absurd movement limits, even on background tiles that shouldn't be possible to stand on top of.

This also has the side effect of enemies moving onto tiles I can't possibly reach them at, and their turns lasting for a significant amount of time even with using the fast forward key. I've taken some screenshots, and if you need save states so you can see what point the bug happens, I can provide that as well.

    1. This might be both emulation or software bug. Thanks for the report - we'll take a look into. Yes, save states would be great. And to see any changes, by the way, use hard saves. Pretty much all the information in cd-based games is loaded on the title screen so save states are not the best way to track changes.

    2. Nevermind, we've found and fixed it. A very specific glitches happening under special conditions only. Thanks for your report, the patch will be updated soon.

    3. I'm glad you were able to figure it out! I got back from work about an hour ago and was just about to post you a Dropbox link with the save states, but I guess that's not necessary now.

Also, another minor thing I just remembered. When opening a treasure chest, occasionally there's a few junk letters in front of whatever you got. Seems like the game's printing the first few letters of another item in front of the chest's contents or something.

    4. Patch upgraded to v.1.2. The chest bug will be fixed next.

    5. And please provide screenshots or save states for the chest glitch you've mentioned if you can.

    6. Nvm, chest bug should be fixed in 1.2 as well.

    7. Btw, skyrunner14, if you have any will to participate in any pre-release tests in the future (dunno when or if, though), you can send me your contact email to the email you find in the readme :)

  8. I can't express how awesomely difficult this game is! The fun is the challenge and I wouldn't been able to do it without this patch so thanks a million!! So far 1.2 is flawless and I am at the final chapter so wish me luck.

  9. Is there any way to skip the cartridge memory caching mechanism? For some reason, my Pseudo-Saturn Kai Lite (originally an Action Replay) cartridge seems to be incompatible. The game hangs or resets (depending on Pseudo-Saturn firmware version) on 3D scenes.
Tested with an unpatched copy (no caching) and it works flawlessly.

    1. Try googling the pseudo Saturn patch for Valhollian. I believe, paul_met has solved that specific issue, but we never intended it to run on pirated software so I didn't bother to post it here.

    2. The post with the patch is here: http://meduza-team.ucoz.net/news/obnovlenie_perevoda_valhollian_dlja_sega_saturn/2020-10-02-29
You may require translation if you don't understand Russian. Two important things: first and foremost, there is a new 1.3 version. The second is that the patch disables catridge memory caching. That seems to solve some incompatibilities.

    3. @aishsha
Why would you say that Pseudo Saturn is "pirated software"?

      Delete
    4. Because that's how you call an unofficial software exploit allowing to run backups.

  10. Just wanted to say thanks for going through the trouble to translate this unsung gem. I'm only on chapter 4 right now and I'm absolutely loving it.

Are there any ways I can financially support future translations for other games? I think you and your team deserve at least something for these high quality translations, and would love to support additional Saturn titles (such as Terra Phantastica, Funky Fantasy, Langrisser 3-5 etc).

    1. Nah, doing them as a hobby, which is free-of-charge, is what keeps the fire burning. We ain't selling and won't be selling them or support some such in the future.
